RESEARCH

1. Biomimetic, Bioinspired, and Bionic Particles & Hybrid Materials

The Laboratory of Supramolecular Chemistry is mainly interested in materials synthesis, in particular in hybrid materials. We focus on polymer/inorganic composites for medical applications and nanoparticles for toxicological studies. This is supported by basic studies on the structure and behavior of our materials to better understand their physical and chemical properties in the respective biological media.

2. Particle and Functional Materials Synthesis using Ionic Liquids as Solvents, Precursors, and Components

The Laboratory of Supramolecular Chemistry is mainly interested in materials synthesis from ionic liquids (ILs). ILs often provide unique media for the synthesis of advanced, possibly unknown, materials. We study the formation of nanoparticles, inorganic and hybrid materials from ILs. The focus is on metal oxides and hydroxides as well as on metals. Again this work is supported by mechanistic investigations to quantify the growth and structure formation in the resulting materials.
