The city of Potsdam is the capital of the federal state of Brandenburg. It is located 30 km south-west of the center of Berlin, with a good connection by public transport.
The University of Potsdam has several campus areas. The central facilities are located next to the famous imperial gardens of Sans Souci. The Faculty of Science, and thus the Institute of Chemistry, is located in the Science Park Golm, in a western suburb.
