Polymer science is an interdisciplinary area comprised of chemical, physical,
engineering, processing, and theoretical aspects. It has enormous impact
on contemporary materials science, as many modern functional materials, gears, and devices
have polymers as integral parts. Therefore, polymer science is of increasing importance for everyone's daily life. Not surprisingly, roughly 30% of all scientists
in the chemical industry work in the field of polymers.
In addition to their individual teaching programs (mainly in german), the four university institutions of the greater Berlin region, namely
the Free University Berlin,
the Humboldt University Berlin,
the Technical University Berlin and
the University of Potsdam,
offer jointly an international Master Program on polymer science in english.
This program is aimed to provide the basis for the design, production, and characterization of polymeric materials and their physical behavior, as well as an understanding for structure/property relationships.
