The synthesis of prenylated isoflavones that were previously isolated from the East-African Medicinal plant Erythrina sacleuxii is described via a flavanone-isoflavone oxidative rearrangement mediated by hypervalent iodine compounds. In contrast to previous reports, synthetic erysubin F showed antibiotic activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus at micromolar concentrations.
