Palladium(II) acetate is the precatalyst for Pd2+-catalyzed oxidative C–H-activation reactions and for Pd0-catalyzed coupling and cross-coupling reactions. Both types of transformations can be used for regioselective arene functionalization, with the acetamide group playing a dual role, first as a catalyst directing group and then as a leaving group precursor.
